ENABLING DEVELOPMENT

Providing expert advice on proposals for enabling development to secure the future of heritage assets, to developers, local authorities and English Heritage, including appearances at public inquiries.

Riber Castle, Derbyshire

We advised on the evolution of enabling development to secure the future of this eccentric Victorian house, long reduced to a shell. Paul Drury acted as an expert witness at the public inquiry following call-in. Consent was granted and work is proceeding.

Manor Farm Barn, Frindsbury, Kent, Church Commissioners

A grade I listed timber framed threshing barn, built in 1403 and severely damaged by fire in January 2003. We produced a Conservation Statement to inform the development of proposals for the restoration and reuse of the building.

Swaylands, Honeygrove Properties

We provided detailed analysis of the evolution and significance of this vast Victorian house and its estate, as a contribution to an enabling development proposal, subsequently approved and implemented.

Coleorton Hall, Leicestershire

Paul Drury acted as expert witness for English Heritage in support of North West Leicestershire District Council in successful opposition to a ‘second bite of the cherry’ proposal for additional enabling development.
