CONSERVATION POLICY AND GUIDANCE

English Heritage

Conservation Principles, Policy and Guidance (2008)
We prepared this overarching guidance for English Heritage’s own use, including extensive public consultation.

Enabling Development and the Conservation of Significant Places (2008)
This is the latest version of guidance on the use and abuse of development contrary to policy to secure the future of historic places at risk. We also drafted the first policy in 1999, and guidance in 2001, as part of a new strategy for addressing buildings at risk of decay and loss.

Guidance on the management of conservation areas and Guidance on conservation area appraisals (2006)
We updated this key guidance on conservation areas, originally published as Conservation Area Practice (1995).

Managing Local Authority Heritage Assets (2003)
This was written for English Heritage, and endorsed by the then Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

All English Heritage publications are available through the organisation's website.
